I have no idea why there is any kind of special treatment for the people from the English department of J.U. For example, a few students from my batch took up an optional course with Kavita Punjabi, a phenomenal comparative literature professor. When I asked a few of the students how the course was, they said Kavita di was very nice. I spoke to an ex-student from the comparative literature department, and asked the student the same question. The person said that Kavita di was not nice at all and was very strict, demanding. There you have it. Students of other J.U. departments are dealt with as they pare supposed to be, with utmost stringency and very high standards placed. The moment it boils down to the English department, why is the standard dissolved and utter leniency exhibited? It shows very clearly from the get-up of the students of other J.U. departments that they are dealt with discipline and stringency. Why is there a relaxation when it comes to J.U. English. J.U. English is obligated to comply with the same standards that the rest of the university complies with. It is no exception to the norm. And the standard throughout J.U. is the standard everywhere across the world these days. In my school, the strictest teachers were the favourites, because the students were intelligent enough to understand that those were the ones who cared enough to bother putting in so much effort everyday to keep us on track. Without that stringency, we would be lost later on in life and would ruin our lives. There was always so much gratitude shown to those teachers. In J.U. English, the very strict professors, Ananda Lal and Swapan Kumar Chakravorty, were the most feared and complained about. Cowards! Don’t even have the stomach to face the normal things that everyone else faces in life! Where is that kind of cowardice going to get you in life? You’ll end up like Biswajit and Mishka, Bangla theatre r lok ke ki bhoy pay ora. Joyati d aar Devesh Chattopadhyay ke ke ki bhoy pay ora. Bhitu to the core! Can’t face any stringency whatsoever! That’s why they don’t get roles. It’s ridiculous! Who has your back at the end of the day? Who gave you all the right guidance and solutions??? Where would you be without the strict people? Every professor of J.U. English (barring the predators) should be very strict with the students in every class. It’s for the benefit of the students. Otherwise, the students will pass out and won’t get proper jobs. See what Tintin’s “rule of fun” has done to the students? They’re at the bottom of the competitive pyramid all thanks to Tintin. What kind of lives will the students have this way? In our school, if even one student erred, the whole class would get it non-stop from the teacher for the whole class. Then every teacher who walked in throughout the day would give it to us non-stop. Then this treatment would go on for a couple of days. Eveyone would have to stand up in class throughout the class and the whole class would be punished by the teacher with everyone getting shouted at and scolded, everyone getting hauled up one by one. That’s why students from this school have the best jobs in the world and are the most well-behaved.
