Note to George W. Bush, Shah Rukh Khan and Anoushka Shankar –
Why is it that Bangalore is so plagued by a trend of nigh-time violence, dangerous people shouting at night and dangerous people creating chaos at night? Despite repeated warnings, these people have not yet stopped. That is how dangerous they are. This is the scenario in Koramangala, the safest area for women in Bangalore. If the state of affairs is so bad in Koramangala, one can easily imagine how pathetic living conditions must be outside Koramangala. This is a rueful plight for Bangalore to be in. The city is not supposed to be in such a miserable condition. Bangalore has no excuse for being in such a bad place in terms of human habitation conditions. Why can the city not maintain any semblance of law and order? The city makes such tall proclamations to the rest of the world of its so-called safety. Yet, it cannot even manage to fulfill some of the most basic requirements of a “safe” city. Problems are not handled by the law as they should be. There is no adherence to the law in so many matters. How can the basic law and order of a city be in such a dysfunctional place? Why does the law not function? Why does the police force not step into action when it is required to? How is it possible that the situation has degraded to such an extent that even repeated requests for a return to civility fall on deaf ears? Why has the state of law and order in Bangalore degraded to such a saddening extent?
